Cities and villages.
Three cities, Moulins, Montluçon and Vichy have also preserved their historical traces. Vichy is a choir city par excellence and has a particularly remarkable historical heritage thanks to Napoleon III, Art Nouveau and Art Deco, oriented towards the spa. Montluçon is more an industrial city that has developed at the foot of the castle of the Dukes of Bourbon. Moulins keeps traces of the royal city that once was in its center.
A whole series of small villages with a lot of charm connects these three large cities. Charroux for example, “most beautiful village in France”, has a beautiful XIIth century church, sculptured facades from the XVth and XVIth centuries, a round construction with its past as a fortress village. Le Mayet-de-Montagne, a piece of Auvergne in the Bourbonnais, Verneuil and Bourbonnais, one of the most beautiful villages in the Allier, Hérisson in the heart of the Aumance and Chantelle valley that overlooks the lengths of the Bouble.
